AMERICORPS VISTA is a national service program that works to eliminate poverty. They are currently looking for volunteers to serve at four different organizations in Reno County: Interfaith Housing and Community Services, Reno County Communities that Care, United Way of Reno County, and Reno County Drug Free Alliance. Volunteers make a difference in marginalized communities, receive a stipend and money towards paying off student loans or towards grad school, and kick-start their career by gaining valuable non-profit work experience.

COMMUNITIES THAT CARE needs volunteers to be a part of the Read With Me program. Volunteers will read with students, help with comprehension and sounding out words. Minimum age of volunteer is 18. Must be willing to volunteer for the duration of the school year. Will be in different schools in the Hutchinson school district.

BUILDERS BARGAINS is looking for cashiers, appliance and electrical testers, floor clerks, help with taking donations and sorting them. Hours needed are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday and Saturday or 1 to 5 p.m Thursday.

RENO CO. COURTHOUSE Elevator Operator volunteers are needed from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, or from 7:30 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Volunteers must be good-natured, able to work with the public, be dependable and be able to successfully operate the elevator after training.

REGIONAL LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN is seeking volunteer Ombudsmen for Reno County. Volunteers will advocate to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of residents in long-term care facilities by making weekly visits to their assigned facility. Volunteers must complete 30 hours of training and successfully complete the screening process.

HUTCHINSON ZOO is needing education assistants to help with camps, classes, public programs, and provide general visitor education. They are also in need of a marketing and events assist to assist with special projects, events and marketing opportunities. Grounds/gardening volunteers are also needed. Volunteers must be 18 and will attend an orientation.

KANSAS STATE FAIR needs volunteer greeters. Volunteers will greet fair visitors, hand out daily schedules with maps, answer questions and give directions. Must be able to work a two-hour shift. Volunteers must be able to stand outside during all types of weather and enjoy interacting with people.

HUTCHINSON PUBLIC LIBRARY is in need of Adult Education Tutors. Tutors will assist adult patrons with studying basic math, basic reading, GED prep, improving spoken English and similar tasks. Materials will be provided, and meetings will take place in a library meeting room. Volunteers should be 21 years old and have completed high school. Volunteers are needed during open hours.

HOSPICE OF RENO COUNTY volunteers provide friendship and support to hospice patients and their families. Duties are varied and hours are flexible, based on the volunteer's availability. Volunteers must keep all patient information confidential, have good people skills, be a good listener, caring and compassionate.

HUTCHINSON GOOD SAMARITAN SOCIETY needs volunteers to be Friendly Visitors. Volunteers will visit with residents about everyday happenings, read the newspaper or a magazine to a resident, play talking books or take a resident outside for a walk. Qualifications include patience, understanding and the ability to accept and relate to people in many different physical conditions.

YOUTHRIVE is in need of Mentor Families for children aging out of foster care. Volunteers would commit to at least four hours per month mentoring a child and would need to make at least a year-long commitment to the program. A six-hour Saturday training occurs before volunteers are matched with a child. Background checks are performed on all prospective volunteers. Volunteers must have a passion for children and helping them succeed in the world.

STRATACA is seeking volunteer Docents. Docents are responsible for all aspects of visitor tours. Volunteers provide safety instructions, operate the hoist to take visitors underground, provide information in the Gallery tour, provide a 30 minute scripted Dark Ride tour all while driving an electric cart and pulling three trailers. Volunteers must enjoy meeting new people, be comfortable speaking in front of groups, reliable and able to learn the materials, safety procedures and protocol.

GRAND STAFF THRIFT BOUTIQUE (Buhler) needs volunteers to help sort and wash clothing, help with displays, stock the floor and help price items. They have a need Tues-Sat, the largest need being Thursday and Friday.

AMERICAN RED CROSS is needing Disaster Action Team members. Volunteers respond in the event of a disaster and assist the people affected by helping them secure financial assistance for shelter, clothing, and hygiene need. Logistics volunteers to help with vehicle tracking, acquisition of materials, ordering supplies, facility inspections, helping procure in-kind services or other big picture coordination are also needed. Mass Care volunteers are also needed and will provide activities and services such as feeding, sheltering, reunification, and distribution of emergency supplies. Volunteers must pass a background check, have a valid driver's license, and complete the initial online training for all Disaster Action Team positions. Local Blood Drive Volunteers are also needed to register donors, escort donors or serve food. All volunteers will be contacted approximately two weeks before each blood drive to choose their work times. Volunteers must be sociable, able to walk and stand for a 2 to 3-hour shift and be responsible and trustworthy.

HUTCH REC COMMISSION is in need of Morning Front Desk Attendants at the HutchCC Sports Arena from 8 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Volunteers will answer phones and direct calls, take messages for staff, check in community walkers, greet and direct the general public. Volunteers must be able to answer the phone, take messages, be punctual, have attention to detail, be able to work with the general public and be 18 years of age.

SOUP KITCHEN needs volunteers to assist in the kitchen with preparing, serving, and cleaning up after meals. Volunteers must be friendly, non-judgmental, able to work with a group and able to follow directions. Volunteers are needed from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

CIRCLES OF HOPE is a proven, comprehensive approach to ending poverty through empowering circles of relationships. The goal is to help families leave poverty by surrounding them with a network of training, encouragement and support. CIRCLE ALLIES are needed to be matched with a family to offer encouragement, guidance and friendship. Allies meet with their family at least one time per month, participate in a monthly meeting focused on eliminating community barriers to self-sufficiency and are invited to join in the weekly Community Meetings. Training is provided.

HUTCHINSON REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER is in need of volunteers to be Hosts/Hostesses for the Inpatient Rehab Unit. Volunteers are needed Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:30-12:30 or later in the afternoon. Must enjoy being around people, be able to move from table to table and refresh drinks. able to easily start conversations. Volunteers would help with hosting a movie, setting up games and trivia, passing out snacks, etc. Substitute volunteers for the ICU Waiting Room desk are also needed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m. as needed to substitute. Subs are also needed for the Information Desk.

MEALS ON WHEELS is looking for Driver and Delivery volunteers. Volunteers deliver daily over the lunch hour in a two-person team. One volunteer drives the route, and the other delivers the meals to the home. Volunteers Must be at least 16 years old, and the driver volunteers must have a valid driver's license.

BUHLER SUNSHINE MEADOWS would benefit from Activities Assistants to assist residents with crafts, woodworking, band, delivering meals, birthday parties, exercise classes, visiting and setting up for group study, spending one on one time with residents, gardening and planting flowers, visiting with men at men's coffee, deliver mail to cottages, and other duties. Van Drivers are also needed, volunteers must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and be patient and friendly while driving residents to doctor appointments and other outings.

BRIGHT HOUSE is seeking Direct Responder Volunteers. Volunteers will provide direct response advocacy to crisis line callers, remain available via telephone during on-call shifts, complete on-call summary sheets and other duties. Training is provided.

FRIENDSHIP MEALS is seeking several volunteer Drivers to drive an agency car for the delivery of meals to homebound persons. These volunteers would only be driving; another volunteer takes the meals to the doors. A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required for this position.

RENO COUNTY MUSEUM is seeking Reception/Gift Shop volunteers. Reception/gift shop volunteers would greet the public, provide information about the various facilities within the museum, maintain counts of all visitors, operate cash register and issue receipts, take admission for the Oodleplex, and help with small office tasks. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES (CASA) are needed. Volunteers are advocates for children in crisis and work with children and families involved in the court system. All volunteers must be 21 years of age and successfully complete the application process and have clean background checks. Must be able to make a year commitment. Training is provided.

OUR REDEEMER EARLY LEARNING CENTER would like volunteers to help read books to children, help in the kitchen with preparing food, and/or an office helper volunteer. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, and a background check will be completed by the agency. Volunteers are also required to have TB tests not provided by the agency. Volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

COSMOSPHERE is in need of Information Desk volunteers. Duties include answering visitor's questions, referring people to staff members or areas of the building, assist with clerical duties and stocking of brochures. A friendly, out-going personality is needed. Walking and standing required. Shifts are two to two and a half hours in the afternoons all seven days of the week. The Cosmosphere is also in need of tour Docents to serve at least one morning or afternoon a week. Volunteers will complete a training program. Qualifications include being friendly, patient, a strong voice, able to climb stairs easily, and an interest in the Cosmosphere. Another opportunity to serve is by being a part of the Rocket Team. The Rocket Team helps with rocket launches. No experience is required as training will be provided. Rocket launch dates vary. Volunteers must be 18 years of age.

SPECIAL PROJECT VOLUNTEERS are needed to help with one-time community events. The Volunteer Center assists many organizations with their events and needs additional volunteers to call on. Volunteers must be able to follow directions, be friendly, and enjoy working with groups of people.

DILLON NATURE CENTER needs volunteers to help on the grounds watering in the mornings, or to help with the cleaning and maintaining the playscape area in the mornings. Volunteers must be able to bend, lift, stand for an hour and be willing to be outside in different temperatures. Must be at least 16 years old.
