The Southwestern College men's and women's tennis teams opened up their spring schedule over the weekend, with both teams taking down NCAA Division III opponent, the McMurry War Hawks.

The (RV) women's team, who were picked to win the KCAC this season, concluded the match versus the War Hawks with a perfect 9-0 sweep. Alexa Powers (FR/Bixby, Okla.) got things started with a quick 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 singles spot, and everyone else followed suit. Newcomer Emily Feihle (FR/Stuttgart, Germany) made her Southwestern College debut in the No. 6 singles slot and was the second Lady Builders member to earn a win in women's singles over the weekend, knocking off her opponent 6-2, 6-3. Brailey McMinn (SO/Canyon, Texas) held down her spot at No. 1 singles- coming back from a 2-6 defeat in the first set to win 6-4, 10-4 in the final two.

In women's doubles, slots No. 1 - 3 went in order as McMinn and Meghan Kindred (SO/Boerne, Texas) handled their business, taking down Ritz/Roberts of McMurry 8-1. The other two matches were a little closer, but Southwestern was able to squeak out wins 8-5 in No. 2 doubles and 8-6 in No. 3.

On the men's side, Sheldon Hawthorne (JR/Humble, Texas) began the day with a win at No. 5 singles in what would be a 5-1 advantage for the Builders in singles matches. Santiago Bracco (SO/Jesus Maria, Argentina) made quick work of his matchup at No. 4, while Santiago Ramos (SO/Ville Allende, Argentina)' win at the No. 2 slot was the only singles match to go into a third set as he knocked off his counterpart 6-3, 10-7 after dropping the first 4-6.

Southwestern was also able to grab two of three matches on the men's doubles side, including an 8-3 win from Franco Poi (JR/Cordoba, Argentina) and David Moral-Tebar (FR/La Roda, Spain) to begin play at the No. 2 spot. Overall, the (RV) Builders took the match 7-2 over the War Hawks to begin the season 1-0.

Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Saturday, February 23 as they take on Hastings at 1:00pm in Salina, Kansas. The men's team for Hastings is also receiving votes in the NAIA top 25 poll.
