The Cowley College Jazz Band and Concert Band presented a concert celebrating Black History Month on Tuesday in the Robert Brown Theater.
The bands played works by African American composers and a piece celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Jazz Band, under the direction of Tyler Gauldin, performed Blue Bossa, A Child is Born, Jungle Boogie, and Back Burner.
The Concert Band, under the direction of Evan Ricker, performed Legends of the Glaxy: A cosmic Fanfare, Heavenwards, Like a Might Stream, and Variations on an African Hymnsong.
“The students worked hard to prepare a fun, diverse program, and their hard work was evident in their performance,” Ricker said.
Jazz band members are: Aysia Chavez, Abbiah Conrad, Connor Lancaster, Matthew Hughes, Dade Brace, John Lundy, Shae Nichols, Kamdon Fuqua, Brycen Stuteville, and Sage Judd.
Concert band members are: Summer Long, Mackenzie Lund, Abbiah Conrad, Philip Howe, Hanah Henry, Aysia Chavez, Kamdon Fuqua, Alysha Zerener, Dade Brace, Symantha Shelton, Corey Firebaugh, John Lundy, Jacob Giger, Jason Hardin, Kamren Holmes, Hayes Cannon, Alena Horinek, Moriah Lyne, Shae Nichols, and Justin Phillips.
