Since graduating from Wellington High School, Ryleigh Buck has kept very busy with both sports as well as academics.  She is now making a name for herself playing softball for the Wichita Shockers at Wichita State University.  Thursday morning, she took time out of her busy schedule to give details on what she has been up to.
“Wichita State has been such a blessing to me. To have the opportunity every day to come out and play the game I love is something I’m so thankful for. Our coaching staff has turned this into a great program and all the girls are so much fun to be around. I’m a junior this year and the start has been a little shaky for us, but we have been continuing to get better every weekend. We have three more weekends before we start conference play, so by then we hope to be playing at our best. I think this team has a lot of potential, and when we start putting everything together, we will be a tough team to beat.
As for the whole school part, it’s all been going good. I am majoring in exercise science and getting a minor is psychology. I plan on applying to physical therapy school starting next August.”
Last April, Ryleigh was named to the American Athletic Conference honor roll after helping the Shockers to three wins at the Bearkat Classic.  A year ago, when we spoke to her last, she said, “After high school, I committed to Central Florida when I was a sophomore and I just fell in love with the atmosphere there. I loved the coaches and the girls down there. Being away from home I felt like they were my family especially when I was going through all my issues with getting cleared and then having to transfer. Now that I am at WSU, though, I know this is where I am suppose to be and I wouldn’t change a thing.“
In regards to coming from Wellington, she said, “I loved growing up in a small town. I felt like so many people supported me throughout high school, and still to this day, keep up with how softball is going. I just miss the close knit community and being around so many people that supported me.“
There is no doubt Ryleigh Buck will continue to make a name for herself as a Crusader alumni, on or off the softball field. Ryleigh graduates from Wichita State University in May of 2020.
