The Beehive Quilt, 122 N. Washington, will be one among nine stops people make this week on a nine-store tour of central Kansas quilt shops.
With this year’s theme, Legends, the 2019 Central Kansas Quilt Shop Hop will take place at the Wellington store Oct. 3, 4, 5 and 6. The Beehive Quilt will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Annarose White, who owns the store with her mother, Connie Hart, said she expects between 500 and 800 visitors to Wellington during the four days as part of the “shop hop.”
“I just think the economic impact will trickle,” White said, adding that she will point people to retail shopping stores like the Lucky Rhinestone and Gold Corner. Also, there will be people eating at Wellington restaurants and The Dore will be offering discount cards to shop hop goers.
The nine stops along the shop hop will take in quilt shops in Wellington, Newton, Winfield, Wichita, Kechi, Severy, Alden and McPherson. This is the first year the Beehive Quilt has taken part in the event.
While hopping at each shop, customers will receive a free pattern and can buy a fabric kit to collect and create their own quilts or projects. Each store has its own exclusive fabric kit.
At each store, shop hoppers can have a “passport” stamped. When finished hopping, they can turn in their passports and if it has nine stamps, they will receive a thank you gift and be eligible for the grand prize drawing. In addition, there will be door prizes at each store.
The shop hop always takes place the first week of October. This year, it coincidentally takes place during Homecoming week.
“We won’t always match up with Homecoming,” White said. “That’ll be rare. We’re just excited to have this many people in Wellington.”
