Jordyn Young’s parents and grandmother watched from behind the fence as she walked on the football field with her escort Quinn McCue and was named Wellington High School Duchess for 2019.
The other duchess candidates were Kylie Aufdengarten, Emberly Gonzalez, Jennifer Jensen and Elise LeGrand.
Young is the daughter of Marya and Marcus Young and the granddaughter of Sherry and Norman Kline and Martha Rentie and Harold Young. She has been involved with choir for four years, Crusaders of the Stage for four years, Crusader Singers for four years, track for three years, cross country for one year, basketball for one year and FCA for two years.
She is also part of the Wellington Church of Christ Youth Group. Outside of school, Young enjoys writing, reading, sleeping, running and being with friends and family.
Her honors include: Kansas Honor Scholar Award, the Lions Club award, qualifying for state track and field and she has received an excellent rating for her solo choir performance and performed with the Wellington High School Choir at Carnegie Hall.
Young plans to attend Adelphi University in New York to pursue a major in English with a minor in Psychology.
Child attendants were Harper Ginter and Brantli Moore. Child escorts were Gracie Rausch and Cade Fairbanks.
Standing on the field, Young’s grandmother, Sherry Kline said, “I’m just so happy for her. I’m crying.”
