A send off rally is scheduled for MaKayla Brownlee, 17, of Wellington, who will travel to Sunriver, Oregon to audition before celebrity judges for a nationally famous singing competition.
The rally is set to take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley, 2111 N. A. Street. There will be open bowling from 3 to 9 p.m. Also at 3 p.m., a corn hole tournament will take place, a beer garden will open and 3 Critters Barbecue will be there with a food truck. At 6 p.m., Brownlee and other musicians will perform.
All proceeds from the rally will go toward travel expenses in sending Brownlee on the next leg of her journey in Oregon.
Brownlee first auditioned for the singing competition in September in Wichita and was invited to a second audition in Chicago. From there she advanced to the Oregon auditions, which will take place Nov. 7 and 8. These auditions will be filmed for the upcoming season of the television series for the singing competition.
Although most of you will know the name of this popular series, it is requested that you help Brownlee honor her legal commitment by not mentioning its name nor showing its logo via press release or social media.
Brownlee first sang on stage when she was 7-years-old at the Kansas Wheat Festival. Over the years, she has performed with her father and brother’s band and has played her guitar and sang solo in gigs around Wellington and surrounding communities. Her dream is to make a career in music.
