For employees everywhere, a little recognition can go a long way.

Recently, a couple of folks in Futures Unlimited’s supported employment program received some acknowledgment for a job well done while working their jobs at local businesses.

Jeremy Young, who works at Casey’s as a lot attendant, met a one-year milestone with his employment and received a gift. “We’re all impressed with Jeremy and his commitment to maintaining employment,” says Bill Loop Futures’ work products specialist who oversees community employment for those served. “Jeremy understands that his job is important and hasn’t missed a shift. He makes sure the motorists filling up their vehicles have clean, open receptacles for their trash and the windshield washer fluid containers are filled.” Jeremy shares, “it's my favorite job I’ve had. I like working outside.”

Additionally, Mercedes Ybarra received an award from Baymont Inn by Wyndham—a subsidiary of Avantic Lodging Enterprises where she works to ensure guests enjoy clean accommodations. The certificate Mercedes is seen holding reads: Supporter of the Month: Presented to Mercedes Ybarra for outstanding performance, dedication and hard work at Baymont Inn & Suites—Wellington South for November 2019. Her supervisor Ramona George said, “Mercedes is a delight to be around; she's always smiling. This year she has attended some of our employee meetings and is coming out of her shell a little bit. I am glad to have her as one of my employees.” Mercedes says her favorite part of the job is interacting with the customers. “I like to hold the door open for them when they have luggage in their hands. I really like my job a lot.”

If you happen to see these individuals, feel free to give them a handshake and be sure to support our local businesses who employ individuals with disabilities.
