The Wellington Senior Center is having a fundraiser Valentine’s Day party, Feb. 14, that will be open to the whole community.

Admission to the party is $15 per person and $28 for two people. The event will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m. A meal prepared and catered by Barbara Patton, featuring pork loin roast, cheesy potatoes, rolls and dessert will be served.

“We have a lot of single people,” Kay Allton, president of the senior center board of directors, said. “You can bring a friend or just come by yourself.”

Proceeds from the Valentine’s Day Party will help make up what the center spent, buying a new roof. The old roof was damaged by holes and rainwater leaking into the building, but it was removed and a new roof was placed over the building last Friday.

The roof replacement was $66,000. The center had to use some of its CD funds to pay for the project, Allton said.

The senior center has had Valentine’s Day parties before, but not like this one coming up, Allton said.

“It’s usually just a break even deal,” she said. “This time we’re trying to make money off it so we can put in our building fund.”

Tanya Chancellor, the vice-president of the board, is arranging for entertainment at the party, Allton said, adding that there will be some music and dancing.

Anyone wishing to attend should reserve in advance by calling the senior center at 326-2815 between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and speaking to the director, Dorothy Ala. The center would like for people to pay when they reserve.

“We can only seat about 55 people and we’re about halfway full so get your reservations in quickly,” Allton said.
