Man shot in leg during walk

SALINA — A man from Salina was sent to the hospital after being shot in the leg Tuesday night.

Salina Police said around 10 p.m. Tuesday it was called to Arby’s at 510 S. Broadway Blvd. where a man was found on the west side of the restaurant with a gunshot wound to the left leg.

The man, Tristen Howard, 24, of Salina, told police he was walking near the railroad tracks on W. Crawford Street toward Dillons when he heard two people arguing. He then said five to six shots were fired with one of them striking him in the leg.

Police said two independent witnesses in the area heard between four to six gunshots.

Howard was transported to Salina Regional Health with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

KBI investigating apparent homicide

MCPHERSON — The McPherson Police Department has requested the assistance of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to investigate the death of a McPherson man who was discovered Monday dead in a mobile home.

Kelly G. Peterson, 63, was found dead in his home. His death is being investigated as a homicide. According to the KBI, no threat exists to the public related to this incident.

On Monday, the McPherson Police Department received a 911 call from an individual who reported finding a man dead inside a mobile home. At around 12:05 p.m., officers arrived at 124 S. Kelly Drive in McPherson, and discovered one deceased man. EMS also responded to the residence and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The KBI was asked to assist with the case at 1 p.m. Monday. KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team responded.
