Woman wants new trial
LEAVENWORTH — A woman who was convicted of murder in 2018 in Leavenworth claims she received ineffective assistance from her attorneys during her trial.
Barbara M. Frantz raised the issue Friday as her attorney, Stacey Schlimmer, was arguing for a new trial for her client.
Frantz, 53, was convicted in 2018 of first-degree murder. She has not yet been sentenced. She was charged after her estranged husband, Gary, was shot Jan. 27, 2017, in a parking lot in downtown Leavenworth.
Frantz was represented during her trial by Schlimmer and attorney Angela Keck. Keck was allowed to withdraw from the case last week.
Frantz and Schlimmer appeared Friday in Leavenworth County District Court for a hearing on a motion for a new trial.
District Judge Michael Gibbens scheduled another hearing for April 3
