The Freewill Baptist Church will be giving away food and other items to people in the community, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 16, but you have to make an appointment by calling the church office at 326-5521.
Non-perishable food items and brand new items, such as fashion accessories, swimwear and home decor has been donated, Charlotte Brooks, church administrative assistant said. Shelter Insurance donated $1,000 worth of food.
“Every donation is by the community of Wellington,” Brooks said.
The goal is to host the giveaways under an awning. Tables will be set up at a social distance from each other. Groups of no more than 10 people will have 20 minutes to look at items they may be in need of, Brooks said.
The church is asking that people stay in their cars until it is their turn to pick up items.
She emphasized that people need to call the church to make an appointment. “They can’t just show up,” she said.
Everyone in the community is welcome to make an appointment and obtain items, Brooks said.
“We want to make sure we help as many people as possible,” she said.
