Message from Ascension

Note from the Editor

The Wellington Daily News received an official statement from Eduardo Conrado, President of Ascension, regarding the recent passage of HR 1—also known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

Many Wellington-area residents receive care through Ascension Medical Group Via Christi and the Ascension Via Christi Emergency Department, both of which are owned and operated by Ascension. Accordingly, we are sharing his full statement below:

“We are deeply disappointed with the cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act included in legislation known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This bill falls short of supporting individuals and families who are poor, vulnerable, or too often left out of important decisions in Washington—resulting in nearly 12 million people losing their health coverage.

While we do not anticipate immediate operational changes, these cuts pose a real threat to the stability of the healthcare system—especially in rural and underserved communities.

As a Catholic health ministry committed to serving all, we remain steadfast in our advocacy for those whose voices are often left out of policy conversations. Our Mission has not changed. We will continue providing compassionate, high-quality care to everyone we serve, with special attention to those most in need—regardless of their health coverage status.”

— Eduardo Conrado, President of Ascension
