Rosa Maria (Zavala) Flynn, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away at her home unexpectedly on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the age of 62. She was born September 28, 1959 to George and Hortencia (Sanchez) Zavala in Wellington. Rosa went to work for the Kansas Turnpike Authority in July of 1980. She proudly reached her 42nd year of service with no mention of retirement in the near future. On October 29, 1982 Rosa and
Ira Lee Flynn were married in Wellington, KS. Rosa was very connected with all of her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, siblings, and friends. She was thrifty and enjoyed shopping at Goodwill and garage sales. Rosa had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats. She was always sure to get in contact with the Humane Society so each animal would receive proper care.
Rosa is survived by her children: daughter, Angela Pierce and her husband Aaron of Haysville, Kansas and son, Ira Wayne Flynn of Haysville, Kansas; brother, Max Zavala; sister, Margie McGlothern and her husband Gary of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Maryann Zavala of Wellington, Kansas; brother-in-law, Jesse Flynn of Wellington, Kansas; sister-in-law, Mary Schaffer and her husband Kevin of Wellington, Kansas; grandsons: Dominick Pierce, Timothy Pierce, and Bryland (Jullia) Benton; granddaughter, Elexis Pierce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lee Flynn; parents, George andHortencia; brothers: Bernie Zavala and Ruben Zavala; nephews: Joshua Zavala and Dallas Payne; and great-nephew Jaxon McEachern. Visitation will be held at Cornejo Funeral Home from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2022. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at St. Anthony’s St. Rose Catholic Church, Wellington, Kansas. Funeral Mass for Rosa will begin at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at St. Anthony’s St. Rose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Wellington, Kansas. Memorial contributions can be given in her name to the Wellington Humane Society. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
