WELLINGTON, Kansas – Last year, the City of Wellington held their first Best Front Yard Contest and it was a success. They had a turnout of 18 participants and the chamber hopes to get more this year.

The contest will include the same prizes as last year. First place will receive a $300 credit to their utility bill, second place will receive a $200 credit and third place will receive a $100 credit.

Last year's winner was Alan and Terri Campbell followed by Carl Hubbard in second place and Mike Mantz in third place. However, winners from last year will not be eligible for prizes this year.

All entries will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on May 31 and all entrants must be City of Wellington utility customers. The judging will be conducted and the winner will be announced at Chamber Coffee in the Memorial Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 10.

The maintenance guidelines given to assist the judges will be a healthy lawn with evidence of continuous mowing and edging. Trees and shrubs pruned and trimmed. Healthy living plants with minimal weeds in the flower beds. Then, the yard is free from debris and clutter.

In terms of design and landscaping, the judges will look for use of color and texture, creative and unique curb appeal, then pleasing appearance making the property an asset to the community.

To enter the contest, entrants must pick up the Best Front Yard form and send it by mail or email to the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB. You can pick up a form at the Wellington Area Chamber/CVB or email
