WELLINGTON, Kansas - Wellington is getting ready to celebrate its 150th Birthday this Saturday, June 5th at Heritage Park. The community is inviting residents and their kids to a block-long "chalk-art" in front of the Memorial Auditorium.

The event is sponsored by the 150th Committee and the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce. The community-wide event will include free street calk, birthday cupcakes, water and visits with the local Fire and Police as their time allows.

"The City staff is excited to join in this Sesquicentennial event and we are looking forward to seeing the community’s creative spirit on display,” said Shane Shields, Wellington City Manager.

Cupcakes will be provided and served by the City of Wellington staff and each cupcake will feature a small representation of the new Wellington City Flag. Kids will be able to use buckets of colored street chalk to illustrate their favorite birthday designs and write messages.

Food trucks will be in attendance and will serve their unique wares. Taters & Toppings, Devour and Kona Ice will be located adjacent to Heritage Park.

“This will be a great occasion to venture downtown and visit some of our newly opened shops,” said Valerie Earl, Executive Director, Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce. “If the weather adversely impacts our outdoor plans, we will simply move the art creation inside Memorial Auditorium.”

The "Chalk It Up Wellington" event will start at 10 a.m. and will conclude at noon.
