At the 121st Kansas Wheat Festival, Wellington will host a Baker's Bonanza and Bake Sale on Thursday, July 8th at the Wellington Senior Center.

There will be a $5 per entry and contestants may have more than one entry. The entries are to be checked in between 8 a.m. and noon. Judging will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Submissions must be home-cooked and made from scratch (no store-bought or mixes). Ready-made crusts will be disqualified. There will be four types of desserts that can be entered: bread, cookies, cakes and pies.

The bread must be full loaves (small loaves acceptable - must be at least eight pieces), must be eight pieces/servings of cookies, a full cake and a full pie.

All entries must be in a disposable container and it's recommended to not submit anything that requires refrigeration. Typed or legible handwritten recipes (8.5" x 11") must accompany all entries and include name and telephone number. All entries will become the property of the contest sponsor.

The sponsor of the Baker's Bonanza and Bake Sale is Good Shepherd Hospital, Interim Healthcare and Sumner County Farm Bureau.

Contestants may work individually or with a team. However, prizes will be awarded to one member/team leader. There will be a prize for each category. The prize will be $50 in Chamber Bucks.

The judges' scoring system will include each entry being assigned a number for judging. Submissions will be judged on a scale of 1-5 with five being the highest. A rating of zero is a disqualification. Items will be judged on taste and appearance.

The Contest Representatives will ally all of the ballots. The contestant with the highest score will be the winner.
