The excessive summer heat is here and this is a perfect opportunity way to take advantage of the pool to cool off and have fun.

If you don't have a pool, make sure to head to the Wellington Family Aquatic Center at 1101 W Harvey Ave. The pool is open daily from May 29th through August 8th from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. On the weekends, the pool will be open from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The general admission is $3 and is free for children under the age of $2. The pool does have season passes available for purchase and has a new babysitter/nanny pool plan.

If you have a pool, Wellington's Building & Code Department will like to give their annual reminder to make sure you're safe as possible.

All pools over 24-inches deep -- or that hold over 5,000 gallons of water -- require a fence constructed with approved fencing material at least five feet high with a locking gate.

In addition to the required fencing, the use of pool covers is encouraged. The pool cannot be within 10 ft. of an overhead power line, and if you run an electrical cord out to the pool for a pump, remember to have a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protector for it.

Please contact the Building & Codes Office at (620) 326-3871 for information on approved materials for pools.
