Children can enter two chalk events at the 121st Kansas Wheat Festival in Wellington

The 121st Kansas Wheat Festival in Wellington has added two activities to their list of entrainment for the fun-filled weekend from July 7-11. Both activities will involve kids using their artistic skills with chalk.

The Kid's Sidewalk Chalk Contest will be held on Friday, July 9th at 9:30 a.m. in front of the First United Methodist Church at 202 W Harvey Ave.

There will be three categories separating the children: four and under, 5-8 and 9-12. The contest is requiring all participants to have their Kansas Wheat Festival Button. Registration and check-in will be at 9:15 a.m. and chalk will be provided.

Each entrant will be given an equal allotted area for which they are to work. Also, entrants will be allowed to draw from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and winners will be announced at 10:30 a.m.

The other chalk event is the Movie Themed Chalking on Wednesday, July 7th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wellington Regent Theater on 114 W Lincoln Ave. 

There will be three categories separating the children: four and under, 5-8 and 9-12. This will also require drawers to have their Kansas Wheat Festival Button. Sidewalk drawing must follow a movie theme or represent a character from a movie Drawings must be completed by 6 p.m. for judging and viewing.

The Kid's Sidewalk Chalk Contest is sponsored by the Wellington United Methodist Church and the Movie Themed Chalking is sponsored by the Wellington Regent Theather.
