Former Wellington Crusader, Butler Grizzlies star commits to play softball for the Evansville Aces
It has been a stellar athletic career for Brooke McCorkle. She has broken middle school records in track and field, dominated on the softball field for Wellington High School and played a key role in Butler's journey to the NJCAA National Tournament.
Now, after spending one season with the Grizzlies, McCorkle has announced she has committed to the University of Evansville (Indiana) to continue her softball career.
"I’m so excited," said McCorkle. "This has been a dream of mine forever!"
As a junior at Wellington High School, she verbally committed to play softball at Mississippi Valley State University. However, after COVID-19 canceled her first season, McCorkle decided to come back home, gain an extra year of eligibility and play for Butler Community College in El Dorado.
In her only season at Butler, she produced a .344 batting average, .533 on-base percentage, totaled 33 hits, six doubles, seven home runs, 35 runs, 35 RBIs and led the nation with 21 hit by pitches. As a pitcher, she made nine appearances, allowed 20 hits, 12 earned runs and struck out 13.
McCorkle has also had the opportunity to represent the Grizzlies in the NJCAA Home Run Derby in Yuma, Arizona. She finished in third place.
This past season, the Evansville Aces finished 23-22 (11-14) in the Missouri Valley Conference. They were eliminated in the first round of the conference tournament to Loyola-Chicago.
McCorkle graduated from Butler with an Associates in Accounting. At Evansville, she will continue to study accounting and will later work towards her Master's degree.
