This year 33 teams from across the Missouri Valley region gathered at the Wichita Swim Club for three days of competition.

Wellington was represented by two swimmers who qualified to extend their summer swim season by competing at the Missouri Valley District Championships.

Jensen Lynnes,16, and Alara Wilson,12, both attended the District Championship meet with hopes to add to or make improvements to their championship schedule by transitioning a bonus time to an official championship qualifying time.

Jensen chose to swim two races, the 50 Meter Freestyle and 100 Meter Backstroke. Jensen was able to swim a 29.66 and captured a second-place silver medal out of 75 swimmers in the race. The second-place finish allows Jensen to transfer this race into her Championship schedule in the 15 and over age group.

This race also set a new 50 Meter Freestyle record for the Wellington Sailfish. Jensen broke her own record from the weekend before at the GPSL when she swam a 29.84.

Jensen came in fourth place in the 100 Meter Backstroke out of 57 swimmers with a new personal best time of 1:15.68. Jensen also set a new record for the Wellington Sailfish, again breaking her own record from the week before when she swam a 1:18.68.

Wilson swims in the 11-12 age group and had a busy schedule over the weekend. She competed in 6 events.

She took second place silver medals in both the 100 Meter Backstroke, swimming a 1:22.69, and the 100 Meter Fly, swimming a 1:23.91.

Wilson's 100 Meter Backstroke set a new Wellington Sailfish record-breaking Jensen’s 2017 record at 1:24.96. Wilson brought a 3rd place bronze medal home in the 50 Meter Backstroke with a time of 38.77.

She also set a new Wellington Sailfish record-breaking Jensen’s 2017 record swim of 39.17. Wilson rounded out her individual events swimming the 50 and 100 Meter Breaststroke with times of 45.06, 5th place and 1:39.11, 10th place.

Once a swimmer moves into the Missouri Valley Championship meets they must compete under their year-round teams. Jensen and Wilson represented the Wichita Aqua Shocks this weekend at District Championships and will again at the upcoming Missouri Valley Championship meet on Thursday, July 29th through Sunday, August 1st in Columbia, MO.

They will be joined by Owen Camblin, 10, who swims year-round for the Wichita Swim Club. Owen did not compete at the District meet as he was already qualified for a full schedule for the Championship meet.

The next few days, Jensen, Wilson, and Camblin will continue their training as they prepare for their opportunity to race with the fastest swimmers across the Missouri-Valley League at the Missouri Valley Championship Meet.

Their qualifying races are:

  • Jensen Lynnes: 50 Meter Free, 100 Meter Free, 100 Meter Back, and the 200 Meter Back
  • Alara Wilson: 50 Meter Free, 100 Meter Free, 200 Meter Free, 400 Meter Free, 50 and 100 Meter Fly, and 200 IM.
