Mulvane High School's Mason Ellis verbally commits to Division I FCS North Dakota State University
Mulvane High School Mason Ellis announced on Monday, Aug 2, via Twitter, that he will be committing to North Dakota State University.
The 6-foot-2, 183-pound Ellis held other offers from South Dakota State and Emporia State. He also attended camps at TCU, Kansas State, and Oklahoma.
At Mulvane, Ellis plays quarterback, safety, and corner. However, his future position in college is most likely going to be on defense. His future position in college is most likely on defense.
Originally, Ellis has played running back his whole life, until his freshman year at Mulvane. That season, the Indians moved him to play quarterback. He started the last game of the season and has been a starter until now.
In a shortened season, Ellis completed 17 of 36 passes for 178 yards with a score. No other Mulvane player reached 100 rushing yards for the year.
He ran for 64 yards and 100 yards in the final two games of the fall. Ellis also finished with 19 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble.
Ellis has posted an unofficial 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash, a 10 foot, 2-inch broad jump, and a 38-inch vertical leap. He also bench-pressed 185 pounds 15 times, per Kansas Pregame.
The North Dakota State commit was a multi-sport athlete. In basketball, Ellis helped Mulvane start 11-0 and finish 15-5. Then, in baseball, Ellis was an All-Metro second-team outfielder.
Mulvane begins their season on the road, Friday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. against Wichita-Collegiate.
