JUNE 7, 2023 In the early 1900’s, the Wellington Ice Plant and Cold Storage business on South G Street helped local residents stay cool by producing 30 tons of ice every day. The problem? Ice melts, so homes and businesses during that era needed a new block of ice delivered to them each day to keep things cool.
Armstrong World Industries, a leader in ceiling and wall solutions, has unveiled an innovative energy-saving ceiling tile which will be part of Sumner County’s U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Building Technologies Proving Ground – Public Sector Field Validation study currently underway in Wellington.
Ecobee Smart Thermostats have been installed in Wellington City Hall as part of Sumner County’s “Building Technologies Proving Ground – Public Sector Field Validation” project with the Department of Energy.
Last week, the historic Santa Fe Building located at 500 South Washington acquired a significant upgrade with the addition of a new energy efficient roof. Sumner County owns the building, which primarily houses the County Appraiser and the Sumner County Roads and Bridge Department offices.
Sumner County was awarded a 3-year DOE field testing study. Lead scientist, Chuck Booten, from NREL came to Wellington to review the team’s progress at the end of August, 2022. Look for continued updates in 2023.
This week, Barry Dicker, Project Leader and President of Decent Energy, Inc. is using a thermal imaging camera to document the temperature of the thermal-energy storage ceiling- tile installed in City Hall as part of the Sumner County’s “Building Technologies Proving Ground – Public Sector Field Validation” project that was awarded by the United States Department of Energy (DOE).
Austin Lloyd, Manager Special Projects for the Sumner County Economic Development Commission joined the conference panel addressing “Renewables and Sustainability Options for Businesses and Communities; General Session: Public and Private Sector Perspectives” at the 2022 Kansas Renewable Energy Conference.
