BQ Town Hall Fosters Collaboration

Sugar Sisters in Caldwell provided an ideal setting for the inaugural Border Queen Harvest Hub Town Hall meeting. Farmers, ranchers, Sumner County Commissioners, Sumner County Economic Development, Vision Caldwell, and other business stakeholders gathered to discuss the development of a community-driven food distribution system.

HUBZone Expands Business Opportunity In Sumner County

Last Tuesday, Stacy Davis, Economic Director of the Sumner County Economic Development Commission (SCEDC), shared exciting news with the Wellington City Council. Davis explained, “For the last two years, I have been working with the Kansas Department of Commerce to have a census tract done for Sumner County, specifically Wellington, declared a HUBZone.” The Small Business Administration (SBA) defines a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) as an economically distressed area based on income and unemployment data.

Sumner County DOE Project proceeds with sensor installation

Sensors are being installed in the Wellington Police/Fire Station this week as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Building Technologies Proving Ground – Public Sector Field Validation Funding Opportunity awarded to Sumner County in partnership with the City of Wellington, Insolcorp, LLC, the University of Kansas Center for Research, Inc., Decent Energy, Inc. and others.
