The Wellington softball team opened their season with a pair of losses at Rose Hill. In Game 1, the Lady Dukes took the early advantage with a 1-0 lead as Kyndal Rusk hit the first home run of the season in the top of the 3rd inning.
For the first time in the history of the program, the Wellington Lady Crusaders basketball team headed to the Kansas State Basketball Championship winning their semi-final game in an overtime thriller against McPherson in Salina.
Despite a jersey matching 33-point night from junior Val Norwood, and a valiant effort by all the Lady Crusaders, Bishop Miege won their 25th State Championship last Saturday night in Salina. “Val was the best player on the floor,” said Wellington head coach, Eric Adams.

The Wellington Lady Crusader basketball squad cruised over Ulysses in the first round of the playoffs for their 20th win of the season. In the first three minutes, it was clear that the Lady Crusaders were the better team as they did what they do and played fast.
After demolishing Rose Hill 65-21 earlier in the week where they led 30-3 at halftime, the WHS girls basketball team faced a tough challenge at Clearwater on Friday to end their week in a tight battle. The Lady Dukes were in an unusually tight contest in the first quarter. For the first time all season, Wellington’s pace got matched and Clearwater’s zone gave the Crusaders fits.
Last Tuesday, the Wellington girls basketball team dominated a Circle team that came into the game with an impressive 10-3 record, holding Circle to only five points in the entire second half. “Our defense was very active and caused Circle confusion,” said WHS head coach Eric Adams.
The Wellington girls basketball team got their 12th consecutive win in a record breaking performance against Augusta last Tuesday. Wellington jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the opening minutes.
After defeating Olathe East by 25 in the quarter finals, and defeating backto- back 3A State Champion Goodland in the semi-finals, the Wellington Lady Crusaders had a date with Beloit in the Championship game of the Colby Orange and Black Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
